Maybe You've Heard This: Truth

I’d like to share a story today. A story, which I think, is interesting and inspirational. This was taken from a Chinese newspaper, which was taken from a book called ‘Story’…

There is this church in somewhere far away. And because wishes made there always come true, therefore this little place became famous. One day, a young man arrived at the church. He looked at Jesus on the cross and felt sympathy. Jesus sacrificed himself for the sake of people, yet he has to listen to all the wishes that they made, and help to fulfill them. This guy had a wish. He hoped to take the place of Jesus on the cross.

It was a sincere wish. And that moment, he heard a voice saying, “Really? Do you really want to do that?” The young man was caught with surprise. “That is very easy. But you must promise of one thing: You must not speak at any condition. No matter what happens, you cannot say a word.” The guy eagerly agreed. And all of a sudden, he found himself on the cross.

Day after day, the young man saw men and women kept coming in and out, hoping for their wish to be granted. Some were pitiful, some were full of nonsense and some were annoying. At first, he listened attentively. But later, he was a little irritated. He wanted to give a lesson to those annoying people but he remembered his promise.

One day, a fat, middle-aged man came and knelt in front of the cross with a bag full of money. He thanked Jesus for the blessings over his business that has prospered and earned profits. He hoped that Jesus would continue to guide and bless him. And he left in a hurry. The fat man forgot his bag. The young man wanted to warn him about the forgotten bag, but he wasn’t supposed to speak. So, he kept quiet.

Then, a retired sailor came in. He looked as if he needed money and he hoped Jesus would help him. As he was about to leave, he saw the bag full of money that the fat man left earlier. Thinking it was a gift from God, he shouted in joy. He took the bag and left happily, not forgetting to thank God before he left. The young man was uneasy. How could the sailor just take someone else’s belongings like that? He wanted to stop him, but he remembered.

After that, a young couple came. They were newly wed and came just to thank Jesus for helping them to find each other. And they wished for a safe honeymoon trip.

As they were leaving, the fat man returned and anxiously looked for the forgotten bag. He couldn’t find it. And then, he blamed the couple and insisted that they were the thieves. But the couple denied. Furious and frustrated, the fat man called the policeman. The couple pleaded for innocence and they were in a hurry to board their ship. Still, the policeman handcuffed the both of them to take them back to the police station.

The young man couldn’t stand it anymore. How can there be such an unfair thing? He stopped them and told what had happened from A-Z. And soon, the sailor was caught and the money was returned and the couple could reach to their ship just in time for their honeymoon. The young man was relieved and happy.

Suddenly he heard the voice again. “You have broken your promise. You are not fit to be on the cross anymore.” The young man answered back, “But why? Have I not done a good thing? I told the truth. The bad has been sent away and the good has been restored.”

Jesus continued, “But do you really know what is the truth? The fat man just now was into drug trafficking and slavery business. That sailor was only trying to save a poor girl’s life. That money was to pay her medical fees. And the young couple could have easily settled this matter at the police station and they would not have boarded the ship that will be bound to sink in a storm later. Is that how you see truth?”

~Hope you've enjoyed it and learn something from it... Sometimes you have to look things at a wider scope and a different perspective in order to know what is true and what isn't...~
