Anyone here likes to watch hongkong TVB dramas here beside watching korean drama.Currently i'm watching an ancient comedy drama 'war of in laws' and it's has so far being the highest rating in hongkong for TVB drama. If you like light-hearted drama that can make you laugh, i will recommend this drama.

Possible spoilers ahead

This series was highly anticipated by both overseas and Hong Kong viewers alike. With a strong cast such as Liza Wang and Myolie Wu and a light-hearted storyline, this series did not disappoint me.

As the title suggests, this is a comedy series concentrating on the relationship between a bossy, self-centered mother-in-law, Seuk Lan (Liza Wang) and a stubborn, smart-mouthed daughter-in-law, Sup Yut (Myolie Wu).

Plot Overview:

Seuk Lan is a princess of the current Ching Dynasty and the older cousin of the Queen. Her family lives in the capitol city, and Seuk Lan takes advantage of her status as a princess to boss everyone in the city around, and everything is always done her way.

Sup Yut and her family are mountain thieves who steal from the rich and deceitful and give to the poor and underprivileged. Through a series of misunderstandings and coincidences, Sup Yut marries into Seuk Lan's family and becomes her son Mau Chun's (Bosco Wong) wife. Her blunt attitude and Seuk Lan's unreasonable attitude cause the pair to frequently argue, often with Mau Chun stuck between his wife and his mother. Poor guy! To complicate things, he suspects that his wife is actually in love with a masked hero-But Lau Ming, who frequently saves the city from any trouble they may have. He is considered a thief and a most wanted person by the government. Ah, as fate has it, But Lau Ming is actually Mau Chun! (But of course, no one knows that, not even Sup Yut or his family) Some "Me, Myself, and Irene", anybody?

Tearing away from the comedy-romantic part of the series, Christine Ng plays Hao Hao, a woman who waited patiently for her lover to come back and marry her for twenty years. She always believed that her Wun Dai Gor would come back to her, not knowing that he already has a wife, son, and a completely different family. It turns out that her Wun Dai Gor is Mau Chun's dad and Seuk Lan's husband!

Throw in a little jealously, some love triangles, some twists and turns, comedy, epiphanies and life lessons learned, and action, and we've got ourselves a light-hearted but not meaningless series.

Cast performances:

Liza Wang: Kudos to Liza for her first comedy series! As a veteran actress, Liza didn't disappoint. Her facial expressions and indignant voice were a perfect fit for the arrogant princess. Towards the end, when she (finally!) realized that her greatest riches was the love from her family, she delivered a very poignant performance.

Myolie Wu: I read somewhere than Liza commented Myolie did not mind filming the "uglier" side of herself, unlike most other young actresses. This strongly enhanced Myolie's performance and made her character very likeable. Although one cannot claim that Myolie is ugly, she admittedly does not have the beauty characteristic of so many of today's actresses. Her looks do not have any negative affect on her character, however. She delivered a very strong performance as Sup Yut. When she was jealous and surprised, she showed it. When she was upset, she shed very convincing tears. This girl can cry - you go, girl!

Bosco Wong: Bosco did a great job portraying the filial son, the sweet husband, the honest, charming man everyone else sees, and most notably - But Lau Ming, the kind-hearted criminal. I love the way he struggled with jealously of the "other him" - jealous that his wife loved someone other than him, even though it was technically him. His struggles are funny, but also understandable - how would you feel if your wife loved someone whom she thought wasn't you but in fact it was?

The rest of the cast also delivered strong performances, with the exception of Chan Ho Yee, who played Ling San. Ling San was in love with Mau Chun for ages, but he never reciprocated her feelings. She tries to become his second wife, and realized that he never loved her. She annoyed the heck out of me - not her character, but herself. A good actress would have made me hate her character, not the actress herself. But Chan Ho Yee succeeded in making me believe that she isn't such a decent actress. Her expressions were flat and failed to make me forget about the actress and concentrate on the character.

This series is definitely not flawless. Most of the comedy occurred during the first sixteen episodes, and all the drama occurred during the last four episodes. Hao Hao was believed to be dead in a fire, Seuk Lan became homeless, Ling San dead, Mau Chun was to be beheaded - everything was squished towards the end. There was almost no comedy and their resolution was absolutely ridiculous.

However, this series must be praised for its great chemistry between the cast, both main and supporting. It is very enjoyable and watchable overall, and I definitely do recommend it.
