This the only free day I can put down tons of writing…Hehe… Anyway, I can write about any movie here, right? Even movies that were shown long time ago? Well, here goes nothing… This movie wasn’t that ancient, but it was screened I think probably last year. It’s a family movie by Disney/Pixar Productions and it has won the Best Animation award in the Oscars. You would have known by now, wouldn’t you? If you haven’t watch it, you are really left behind… Hehe, just kidding…

What movie am I blabbering about? Why, it’s Finding Nemo, of course! It’s the best animation I’ve seen, plot-wise, character-wise, graphic-wise, humour-wise, etc. Okay, the story is about life undersea, to be specific, the settings took place in The Great Barrier Reef, Australia. It mainly revolves around a clownfish, named er… if I’m not mistaken, Marlin and his son, Nemo of course. And as the title suggested, Marlin and his son got separated one day during Nemo’s first day to school (He went on a school trip with his friends and Mr. Ray---a stingray) Marlin is an over-cautious and protective fish-father because Nemo lost his mother before he was born (still an egg) and he has a deformed fin on one side. On that day, Marlin’s worst nightmare came true. Nemo followed the trip to the edge of the reef and his curiosity arose when he saw the bottom of a boat. His classmates dared him to swim out and touch the boat and he did. But, he soon found himself caught by a diver. Marlin arrived just in time to see his son got caught and try to chase after the boat. He lost track of it but he still pushed on to find Nemo. Thus, a journey of exciting and enthralling adventures began where Marlin meet new friends, particularly a blue-sturgeon fish, named Dory. Hehe, their first encounter was hilarious as Marlin found out that Dory has short-term memory. And he met with Bruce and his company who happened to be vegetarian sharks. So did he meet the turtles and what a contrasting image they portrayed compared to Marlin. The turtles are actually more open-minded in letting their kids on their own while Marlin always try to ask Nemo not to do this and that. Kind of reflects our own human society. My parents are a little like Marlin. Anyway, it’s a really enlightening adventure for Marlin as he search for not only Nemo, but himself too.

On the other hand, the movie also shows Nemo’s side of the story. He was actually brought to a dentist’s office. In the aquarium he met new friends too. Gill, an angelfish and the leader in the aquarium, a fish who thinks she has a twin whenever she peers into the mirror, a lobster who can’t stand any dirt in the tank, a puffer fish---bingo again, think balloon with pricks, a starfish, etc. (cant really remember the names of the rest) There, he finds out his courage and thought he’s safe. But, they found out that the dentist was about to give away Nemo to his niece for birthday present. The bad news is that all fish are terrified of that little girl with braces. Because there was a picture of her with a fish in a bag of water. The problem is the fish is dead, belly facing upward. (Ooh, nightmare for me if I’m a fish!) So, they made plans to escape and you must applaud them or in this case the story creators for their highly intelligent plan. What’s their plan? Get a VCD and check it out.

All I can say is though this movie is out-of-date, it’s still a worthy one to watch. It really portrays somewhat human-like behaviours and actions through these sea creatures. Relationship is again the key message here, whether it’s between father-child or friends. It’s very touching (though I forgot which part was that, that made my eyes teary) but yet, side-aching laughter is another important ingredient that never fails to capture the audiences’ hearts. I can still hear Dory singing, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming” as they swim down towards the deeper parts of the ocean. Well, of course they had a happy ending. Family movie what… And they had their humours at the beginning of the movie, middle and the end. Before the story started, there is a short clip of a toy snowman---the snowman in the glass/plastic container that snows when you shake it, who tries various way to escape out of his little “snow-world”. Drilling, breaking the glass, and even blasting with TNT. Just name it, you’ve got it. And the whole process is extremely hilarious. Really! All because he saw beautiful toy mermaids on the outside of the ‘barrier’. Hehe, at last… he still couldn’t get out of that dome-shape home. It might seem childish but I feel it’s a great entertainment with friends and family. Or a resolution to release stress by laughing your hearts out. You’ve got nothing to lose if you watch this… Then again, I’m just writing my own opinions. =)
