hey all you david tao music loving guys out there!! got this qtn i would like to know e ans to.. hmm.. u know, if u read each CD credits... it will say like who played what instrument and who sang the background vocals so on and so forth right... so for eg in the 1st CD, for many of the songs, david played like all of the instruments and sang both the main and background vocals and sometimes there is both background and main voice are singing at the same time if u know what i mean. and also how do all the instruments be played at the same time by thesame person?? so, i would like to know how that is possible?? haha.. jus wanna know more abt music making. can u guys understand my qtn?? sorry i'm quite a music idiot so that explains tis qtn which may seem dumb to many ppl. haha

both background and main voice are singing at the same time - When recording albums, background voice and main voice can seperately be recorded. It can't be recorded at the same time. I think he recorded the background first as demo then he start to sing his main when he start recording for his actual. If you listen to ultrasound demo 'blue moon' accappella version. There's nobody singing, david do all the acappella part. When choosing the actual version he wanted then he start to sing the actual version in studio he wanted to put in his album.
how do all the instruments be played at the same time by thesame person?? - same thing recording album is not live(unless you want to do an album with the live band doing live recordings) so he can multi-tasks, play the instrusments, recording his background voice , sing the demo etc all doing seperately.
I don't know if you know what i mean because my explaination seem complicated..haha
Sry move this here as its more discussion. Anyway, yeah, its like what nlayhua described, can record or lay the tracks individually in the studio. So many things can be done in the studio now as David mentioned in his 3rd msg, so sumtimes live sounded so different than cd. But David oso haf sum tracks recorded with instruments & vocals @ the same time like Lullaby, Butterfly, Season of Loneliness & I think Katrina.

hahha.. after thinking it through.. i must say that then if david does EVERYTHING himself.. isnt that very tiring.. then the timing must be PERFECT, and when does he know when his background vocls must start or stop?? hahha.. i really salute the musicians like him.. talented i must say...
which makes him a wonderful producer... and he knows how to cooperate with the best musicians around too. with goh kheng long and 12 girls band in the new album
